BELOW ARE IDEAS TO ORGANIZE REPORT INFORMATION IN A TREE MAP FORMAT
SAMPLE TREE MAP IN GRID FORMAT WITH INFORMATION
Once the tree map is completed, transfer the information into a rough draft. Each branch or column of the tee map is a paragraph. Begin with an introduction paragraph 1. Then use the information from the branches for paragraph 2, 3, 4. The conclusion is paragraph 5.
SAMPLE PROJECT OUTLINE OF REPORT
(Use the information from the tree map)
Introduction: Paragraph 1
Do you like the sound of birds chirping in your backyard? That is how I became a birdwatcher. I have been watching birds for 15 years and I have learned a lot. I will tell you about the different types of birds, bird habitats and how they survive, and how to keep them as pets if desired. Get ready to be amazed!
Paragraph 2: (Information from Tree Map Branch 1)
Topic Sentence: There are many types of birds.
Fact 1: Sizes vary from a very small hummingbird to a medium sized hawk to the largest ostrich.
Fact 2: There are flying birds like the scrub jays and non-flying birds like the penguins.
Fact 3: Some birds eat seeds and fruit like the finches and orioles, while others prey on other birds or animals like the
eagles.
Ending Sentence:The variety of birds can be categorized by different ideas.
Paragraph 3: (Information from Tree Map Branch 2)
Topic Sentence:Birds live where their source of food are available to them.
Fact 1: Shore birds like seagulls eat sea life like fish, crabs, and mussels.
Fact 2: Rainforest birds like toucans eat fruits and nuts that can be found in the jungles.
Fact 3: Desert birds live in the desert because snakes, lizards or even cactus are available for them to eat.
Fact 4: Backyard birds like finches, flycatchers, and woodpeckers can eat nuts and fruit that homeowners put out for them.
Ending Sentence: What birds eat depend on where they live and what’s available to them to survive.
Paragraph 4: (Information from Tree Map Branch 3)
Topic Sentence: Some people like to keep birds as pets.
Fact 1: Birds like parrots, finches, cockatoos, parakeets, and lovebirds can be kept in cages at home.
Fact 2: Pet stores have all the supplies available for pet owners to keep their birds happy and comfortable.
Fact 3: Some parrots can be taught to speak over time.
Ending Sentence: Pet birds can be happy living with their owners.
Conclusion: Paragraph 5
As you can see, I have learned so much about birds and I continue to learn new information about them just by watching them everyday. There are many books available to help birdwatchers like me. It is my goal and dream to be able to travel around the world to see many more birds and take pictures of them to add to my collection.
